If there is anyone out there who understands Pomeranians it’s photographer, Kira DeDecker. Her Pomeranian Appreciation board on Pinterest it a treasure trove of fluff ball cuteness. Based in Glendale, AZ, Kira photographs pets across the US, but you can tells it’s Poms that have truly captured her heart. So I’m a more than delighted today to share with you this stunning photo session…

This is Bandit, my accidental foster. When I went to photograph adoptables for Potato Chips Pomeranian Rescue I ended up walking out unexpectedly with this little dude (and really, who could say no to a face like that). Bandit was always a great model for me, all I had to offer him was a few treats and the occasional belly rub to get him to work for the camera.

One of my favorite times to shoot is in what is commonly called the “golden hour” (basically just an hour before the sunsets or after the sun rises). In these photos of Bandit, I shot in the last 20 minutes of this magically hour so the sun was low in the sky and was diffused by my neighbor’s tree into golden haze deliciousness.

My philosophy is simple – let the dogs be themselves, if they happen to be naughty/shy/wild in real life then I’m shooting them that way. You love them. Embrace it. Life is so much sweeter when you get to share it with the ones you love. Because there will be a day when you won’t be woken by their slobbery wet kisses and excited paws. Your house will be quiet and you won’t be greeted by their barks. You’ll have more money in your back account but fewer dirty paw prints on the floor. Our lives pass so quickly and moments like this make up the most of it. I want you to remember these things with photos so you can have evidence of the gorgeous happy messy love that it is.
