Review: Bone & Soul from Big Bone

I have to admit, washing the dog has always been on my ‘not so fun’ lists of things to do on the weekend. Usually because I end up more covered in suds than Soda, and she always goes and rolls in the dirt afterwards making me feel like a complete failure.

But I have to say when the Australian lifestyle brand, Big Bone, sent me their new ‘Bone & Soul’ range of organic shampoos and conditioners I was a little more than intrigued. With their modern day apothecary branding, I suspected they had a hit on their hands. So I gussied up, and got the bath water running…

As you can see first off, this is no average supermarket pet shampoo. When I first cracked open the shampoo I was overwhelmed by the delicate fragrance. I’m talking a bouquet of fresh spring flowers in a bottle! I was so enticed I wanted to wash my own hair with it.

The great smell actually comes down to Bone & Soul’s signature use of aromatherapy principles throughout the range to address skin concerns in dogs.

Got a dog with sensitive skin? Try the Rose Geranium, Chamomile & Lavender set. Have a flea and tick problem? The Sweet Orange, Lemongrass & Rosewood in this range helps to naturally act as a repellant. Got a nervous pooch that doesn’t like bath time? (Or maybe like Soda thinks the best time to jump out of the bath is during the middle of shampooing?) The Ylang Ylang, Bergamot & Clary Sage in the final range helps calm upset dogs… which frankly is a godsend to those of us who had given up on home washing our dogs.

The ranges include shampoos, conditioners and a detangling spray, and are all made in accordance with Big Bone’s philosophy of naturally sourced ingredients, that are environmentally friendly and cruelty free. They leave your pooch’s hair healthy and shiny, and the toxin-free formula means your dog is free of itching and irritation. All they need to do now is branch out into human hair products and I’ll be happy…

I just bought these products at the Million Paws Walk and bathed my Sheila with them — smell delicious and she remained calm the whole time. She’s so soft and fluffy too and the scent lasts for ages!
