Looking for something a little different than your usual pet photography? Painted Pets by Photo Effects take your original pet photo and transforms it through digital hand painting to create a whole new piece for your home. It’s like magic …without the creepy magician, just cute puppy pictures.
DIGITAL HAND PAINTING
The process is simple. You send them your favourite photo of your pooch, they size your image, enhance it and digitally hand paint it.
You then have the option of getting the image printed on paper, canvas or anything you choose to make your pup a feature artwork!
THE PROCESS
To transform your picture into artwork, the photo needs to be at least 5 megapixels – most point and shoot cameras today have this option.
Once you email your photo through, they use their custom brushes and techniques to turn the original image into a painted one. They then email the transformed image back to you to print on any medium you choose.
Don’t have a digital photo of your favourite pet? That’s totally ok too. The process works just as well with scanned images from old photos. That’s right, your beloved Snuffles* from 1978 gets a look in.
* Totally what I wanted to call a family pet back in the day. I was voted down.
UNIQUE, HEARTFELT IMAGES
I loved how they captured Soda’s smile and white flares of fur throughout her coat. There is something about the hand painted effect that captures the emotional reality of a photo, while displaying the romantic and treasured value of a painting. I know this piece will have pride of place in my home for years to come.
For people who have lost a pet, I see Painted Pets as a wonderful gift option. A treasured piece of art that also enables their beloved pooch to remain forever immortalised.
ARTWORK OPTIONS
You have the option of 3 print sizes, Small (18×12 Inches), Medium (30×20) and Large (60×40).
It’s completely up to you as to what medium you print your pet portrait on. Painted Pets recommends canvas or art paper. I got Soda’s work printed on Canvas and it works perfectly in our home – not too pretentious, not too casual – just perfect!

I know – just amazing!
I think this would be so perfect for people who have old photos of pets that are passed or pets that really don’t do well with traditional photography. So special.
There aren’t any pets that ” don’t do well with traditional photography”!!! There’s just lots that create a challenge for us 🙂 In fact this describes most of my sessions, it’s all about capturing this personality (and lots of patience)!
Now I’ve said my bit on that.. I LOVE this idea for pets that are no longer with us, and a way to create art of a different medium for any home… hmm might have to start saving for one of Flee!!!
Of course Kirstie I’m a big advocate for getting photography sessions with pets – no happy snaps can come close to a professional photography session.
This option gives the best of both worlds whether you’re creating the portrait from a professional pic or an old photo 🙂
xx
