When I first saw the photos in today’s session  I think I turned into Brick “I Love Lamp” Tamland for a second.

I love shoes.

I love dogs.

So I’m loving this amazing series “Shoe Dogs” by McCartneys Dog Photography.

Seriously, it has to be one of the cutest ways to show off your dog’s personality. Time to dig those Louboutins out of the cupboard I think!

The idea for putting dogs into shoes came of course from my wife, Kelsy.

We’re always photographing our dog, Parker, and while having dinner at her parents house she thought it would be super cute for Parker to try on my shoes.

Of course she took a picture, and that’s when the light bulb exploded in our heads!

From there we gathered as many pairs of shoes as we could and brought them to the next set of dog sessions that we had.

Right away people were completely on board when we asked them if we could put their dogs into shoes for a few pictures during their session with us!

Matching dogs with the shoes is actually pretty simple – male dogs into mens shoes and female dogs into lady shoes! Of course we talked about the dogs personality with the owners to decide if rugged or fancy fit them best.

Whenever possible we like the owners to bring in their own shoes. It adds an additional personal connection to the image.

Butch McCartney has been creating dog portraits since 2004. Traveling the country setting up a little studio in peoples homes, dog salons, and of course ringside at dogs shows nation-wide. His dad is a dog cartoonist and he grew up in the dog show world with the family business. The dog portraits started with the encouragement from his mom and the first set of portraits were taken in 2004 at the Kentuckiana Cluster of Dog Shows in Louisville, KY.
