Coco Bean and I are HOOKED on chickpeas. They are no doubt one of the easiest snacks we have come across in a while, not to mention they are delicious. They have been the perfect treat for Coco lately, especially since it’s starting to get a bit toasty here in Florida. She loves getting a few cold chickpeas when she comes inside from her walk or potty break. She actually dances around them and rolls them around as if she is celebrating before chowing down. Quite hilarious.
Even better, if you make a whole bag you will be completely stocked in the treat department!
There are two ways we enjoy chickpeas for dogs…
Plain Jane – Refrigerated
Yep, just cook the raw chickpeas, rinse, let cool, and refrigerate in an air tight container. These are perfect on salads and tucked into wraps. Plus they make for easy + cool treats for your pupster!
Roasted with Herbs
To switch it up, we love to munch on roasted ones too. Especially if you are craving something crunchy! After they are cooked and rinsed, I put them in a large bowl and mix with a spoonful of coconut oil + sprinkle a little basil and thyme.
Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake at 275º F for 45 minutes or until crunchy. Store in an air tight container. You will LOVE these and your pup will gobble them up #crunch #crunch.
