Have you heard of the smash cake trend? You know, the one where parents buy their children their own birthday cake to ‘smash’ and devour – usually accompanied by photo shots of a toddler covered in frosting?

Well when I first saw the this shoot by Nattnee Photography, I thought the end result would be similar. But lo and behold, it turns out a 2 year old Westie eats cake much more neatly than a 2 year old child ever would. Could this doggie birthday party be any cuter?

Baxter is my very first dog and he’s been with me since he was 2 months old. I love him to bits and he’s seriously like my fur child.

When it was his 2nd birthday, I bought him a cake from Chew Chew Pet Restaurant in Wollstonecraft and invited my siblings over to celebrate as well.

After dinner, it was time for his cake! I had Baxter sitting on the dining chair and cake in front of him. Everyone always look at these photos and think he’s such an obedient boy but oh no, he was wanting to lunge for the cake! I had my sister hold him from behind the chair at first so I could get some pic of him just looking at the cake (his eye never left the cake!) before letting him have it. He loved it and you can see he grinned from ear to ear after he devoured it.

With the cake gone and my lights set up, we then did an impromptu photo booth shoot to capture the fun memories of the day. Happy 2nd Birthday Baxter!
